How can a website pick-up more traffic using massive amounts of articles without diluting its target customers? So, often we see very niche oriented websites selling a product or service, but the articles they post on their website are not focused on that niche. Should they take the articles off the site?

No, they should leave the articles on the site because more pages and all those additional key words will increase traffic to the site. But they should have one-way links from the articles to the website, but not from the website to the articles.

You take all your articles lets say on business, sales, advertising, etc. and make them one page each on your website. Then link each of those pages to your site, but not the other way. In other words people coming to your site CANNOT SEE THEM, but those coming to your articles will be linked to the main site, while remaining in the frames so it all looks the same.

Then make disclaimer on the bottom of each article. We do not necessarily accept this authors opinions in this article, but if you want the very best in “whatever it is you sell” then “click here!” Why use this method? This adds pages to your site with lots of
key words This might be a good innovative way to make use of your articles and increase sales without diluting your message or confusing your customer about your niche.
