As an affiliate or publisher with a new site, you’re in the position of convincing merchants or advertisers that you will bring qualified buyers to their sites. Your traffic, demographics and content of your site will be reviewed by the merchants, and you will be approved by those who feel you can bring them additional sales.
So, you’ve gone on for six months or longer, and some merchant sites have done better than others. Some have done MUCH better than the others. How can you capitalize upon this? Well, flesh and blood salespeople often earn the right to higher commission rates and benefits once they have proven themselves. And a great online sales originator can often get additional consideration. Remember – you are a no-risk proposition to a merchant or advertiser – and for them getting the same level of sales from a group of super affiliates simplifies life considerably.
Ask the program manager at the merchant site how you rank in their pool of affiliates, as well as in your category of merchant, such as women’s apparel. If you’re in the top group, there may be room for re-negotiation of your commission agreement. Merchants value being able to predict good sales from your site, and an increase in commission for a partner that produces and is easy to deal with, and keeps up their end of the bargain is important.
Bolster your case by quantifying your increase in sales over time, and be prepared to show that this is not a fluke. For instance, catalog the improvements in your site that have made it more content rich and more attractive to the buyers they seek to reach. And show them your plans for further enhancing your site. You may even be able to negotiate a reciprocal link, where they send visitors to your site. This is the cat bird’s seat of the affiliate partnership!

Traffic is the lifeblood of your web site. Without traffic you cannot build a list or sell and product or service. Generating traffic is hard work so it pays to use every strategy to increase traffic to your site. With that in mind here are 7 great tricks that you can use to increase traffic.
1. Ask your visitors to sign your guest book. When visitors sign your guest book they may leave valuable information about your site. Good or bad, the information can be used to improve your site, improve your offer, or even give you an idea for a new product.
2. Ask your visitors to bookmark your site. If you let them know that you add new content on a regular basis, they will be more inclined to bookmark your site and return at a later date.
3. Recommend a friend. This is a great way to increase traffic to your site. If your visitors find good information at your site, they will be willing to recommend your site to their friends. You can further encourage visitors to recommend your site by offering a free report or e-book.
The script that makes the recommend a friend work is available online for free and it is very simple to set up on your web site.
4. Subscribe to our free ezine. This is probably one of the more popular methods and it is one that I recommend. It accomplishes two things. It allows you to stay in touch with your visitors. You can provide them with helpful information or notify them when you add new content to your site. You also build a valuable list of potential customers.
5. Ask your visitors to enter your contest. Offer a free e-book or something else of value as the prize and encourage all of your visitors to enter. By entering the contest you collect their contact information which allows you to stay in touch and offer your products. The sales you generate using this technique will more than pay for the prize.
6. Ask your visitors to join your affiliate program. Many of your visitors will be interested in sharing information about your product or service if they receive a commission for the sale. This is a great way to increase traffic to your site and increase sales. While you must give a percentage of your profits to your affiliate, you will still gain a new customer with the potential for future sales.
7. Allow your visitors to use your content on their web site or in their ezine. Always ask that your visitors leave your resource box intact if they use your content. That way anyone reading your information can visit your web site for more information. This technique spreads your content all over the Internet. One person with a list of 1000’s could conceivably boost your traffic and sales dramatically.
All of these techniques can be used to increase traffic to your web site and increase your sales. Most of them are free to implement, but the results may surprise you. Give these strategies a try before you spend money on other more expensive traffic generation methods.
